A fire investigator is at the scene of a Christchurch property which went up in flames last night.
Fire crews from all over Christchurch battled to control the blaze near the University of Canterbury according to a Fire and Emergency (FENZ) spokesperson.
"There is still one crew there and a digger to assist with investigations," the spokesperson said.
A full report is expected to "take some time."
FENZ South Manager Lynn Crosson last night said the fire was reported at about 8:55pm on Clyde Rd.
She said the building on fire is in the vicinity of the University of Canterbury on nearby Kirkwood Avenue.
Crosson said the building is a large, two-storey derelict residential property which will likely be “totally destroyed” by the blaze.
No people have been reported missing or injured and the fire has been contained.
Emergency services closed Clyde Road last night in response to the blaze. There were six fire engines, a command unit and aerial at the scene, Crosson said.
