Air New Zealand has announced a new range of snacks for domestic passengers this Christmas – so has the classic Cookie Time made the cut?

The airline's Chief Customer Officer Leanne Geraghty introduced the new line up on Breakfast this morning.

The offering includes QB's Crunchy Cheese bites, as well as Dr Bugs Popcorn.

The dried cheese bites are gluten-free, low-carb, lactose-free, vegetarian and "really, really yummy", according to Geraghty.

Multiple popcorn flavours "scrolling through" as offerings are inspired by Kiwi desserts, such as, in this case, lemon meringue pie.

Also in the line-up are chocolate pretzels and Snackachangi potato chips. Proper Crisps will still be onboard too.

Nuts are in the offering as well, with skinny-dipped almonds and Torere macadamias.

That's not all. Geraghty says there are 14 new products, rotated through from December.

"Customers told us they wanted a choice so we wanted to make sure we've got a rotation of offerings."

Some will be on domestic and some will end up on the international services.

More than 400 suppliers put forward products to be considered in the midair snack refresh.

Soups and cheese rolls didn't make the cut. Sorry, Southlanders.

"On the domestic sector, we don't have reheating facilities onboard," Geraghty explained. And, she said, Air NZ was looking for items that "don't create a lot of mess".

Storage, size and weight, were other considerations.

The Cookie Time biscuit has – repeat, has – made it and will continue to be served to passengers. Geraghty hinted there may even be some new flavoured cookies in the pipeline.

Most likely to be dished up first on domestic flights among the new nibbles from tomorrow are the skinny-dipped almonds.
