For the first time in five years, Kiwi snowboarder Zoi Sadowski-Synnott will not be on the podium of an X-Games.

The 22-year-old has been forced to withdraw from the event in Aspen, Colorado, this weekend due to an ankle injury she's been rehabilitating since December.

1News was told by Snow Sport NZ that Sadowski-Synnott injured her ankle while training and is wanting to focus on her recovery.

Sadowski-Synnott, the Winter Olympic champion, made her X-Games debut in 2019 when she won gold in the women's slopestyle and silver in the women's big air events. Since then she has won a total nine X-Games medals.

Fellow Kiwi Nico Porteous will compete at X-Games along with Tiarn Collins and Ruby Star Andrews, both of whom will make their X-Games debut.
