Bike parts were scattered over the velodrome at the Paris Olympics today after a spectacular crash in the first heat of the women's keirin cycling quarterfinal.
The heat featured world champion Kiwi rider Ellesse Andrews.
She managed to escape the carnage, which happened behind her, as Chinese rider Yuan Liying and Netherlands Steffie van der Peet came together after crossing the finish line.
Belgium rider Nicky Degrendele was also caught up in the crash and spilled off her bike as pieces flew off.
Luckily, none of the riders appeared to sustain serious injury and all walked off to be assessed.
Degrendele waved and smiled at the camera to let everyone know she was OK.
Andrews finished in second place to qualify for the semifinals, in her quarterfinal fellow Kiwi Rebecca Petch finished in third place to also qualify.
