Paralympians in action: Kiwi Para cyclists take on individual time trials

September 4, 2024
Anna Taylor of Team New Zealand competes during the Women's C4 Time Trial at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Eight Kiwis compete on day seven of the 2024 Paralympics with four Kiwi Para cyclists looking to add more medals on the road in their respective time trial events.

Para cyclist Anna Taylor already has a medal at these Games, claiming silver in the women's C4 3000m individual pursuit. She will ride on the road for the first time in Paris in the women’s C4 individual time trial tonight.

Nicole Murray is also hunting her second podium of the Games after taking bronze in the women's C5 3000m individual pursuit. She will feature on the road in the women’s C5 individual time trial.

Here's what's on for our Kiwi para athletes on day seven in Paris.

A third Kiwi, Devon Briggs, has made a late decision to withdraw from his final two events – the Men’s C3 Individual Time Trial and Men’s C1-3 Road Race. The Men’s C3 Individual Time Trial is scheduled to take place without Briggs at 11.30pm tonight.

Last month, Briggs was involved in a crash that left him in hospital with pelvic injuries. However, determined to make his Paralympics debut, he pushed through the pain to finish fifth in the men's C3 3000m individual pursuit.

NZ Paralympic Team Chef de Mission, Raylene Bates, said the wider team were incredibly proud of Devon and understood and supported his decision to withdraw from his next two evetns.

Hand cyclist Rory Mead makes his first appearance at Paris 2024 in the men’s H2 individual time trial.

After a successful day six at Stade de France with Will Stedman picking up a silver medal and Anna Grimaldi claiming bronze, two more Kiwi Paralympians are in action at the stadium.

Holly Robinson is set to compete at her fourth Paralympic Games in the women’s shot put F46. She has both gold and silver medals in the women's F46 javelin, an event she'll compete in on Friday.

Danielle Aitchison, off the back of her silver medal-winning performance in the women’s 200m T36, competes in the women’s 100m T36.

Louise Duncan makes her Paralympic debut in Para equestrian on her mount, Showcase, at Chateau de Versailles.

Michael Johnson competes in Shooting Para sport for his third and final appearance at Paris 2024 in the R9 mixed 50m rifle prone SH2 qualifying tonight, with the final early tomorrow morning.

Watch the Paralympics live on TVNZ+ and TVNZ1 from August 29-September 9.
