Canterbury Kings opening batsman Chad Bowes has become the fastest man to reach a double century in List A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 103 balls against Otago.
The record books were blown wide open as Bowes also became just the second man in history to score a Ford Trophy double century, alongside Central Stags' Jamie How who reached 222 in 2012/13.
The previous record was held by Travis Head when he reached his double century off 114 balls playing for South Australia in 2021/22. Narayan Jagadeesan for Tamil Nadu also achieved the milestone in 114 balls in 2022/23.
Bowes was also celebrating his 100th List A match today, and reached his first century of the season off just 53 balls to bring up one of the five fastest centuries (by balls) in the history of the Ford Trophy (the record is held by Ross Taylor, 49 balls for Central Stags in 2021/22).
The 32-year-old hit 27 fours and seven sixes on his way to his double-ton.
Bowes was dismissed shortly after reaching the milestone, finishing on 205 runs being given LBW off a Matt Bacon delivery.
At the time of writing, Canterbury were 337-9.
In Canterbury's opening match of the Ford Trophy, Bowes hit 48 not out in their six-wicket win over the Wellington Firebirds.
Bowes has represented the Black Caps in both white-ball formats (six ODI's, 11 T20's) and most recently represented them in an ODI against Bangladesh in September last year.
