Kiwi tennis star Lulu Sun is among the top seeds for the women's field at the 2025 ASB Classic.

Sun, currently ranked No. 40 in the world, is seeded fourth at the tournament. Sun was a qualifier at last year's ASB Classic but, after an impressive year on the court, she has earned a place among the top seeds for the tournament.

The 22 players who have gained direct entry for the Auckland tournament have been revealed, with a late entrant for the tournament taking the No. 1 seed spot.

American Madison Keys is currently ranked No. 21 in the world and is the top seed for the tournament. Belgium's Elise Mertens has been seeded second and American Amanda Anisimova is third seed.

Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has pulled out of the tournament due to "personal reasons".

Tournament director Nicolas Lamperin said he is delighted with the strength of the women's field.

"I am very pleased with the quality of the field this year with the winners of seven Grand Slams, a US Open runner-up and a mix of proven performers and some exciting young players," said Lamperin.

"To have Lulu Sun back home at the tournament as the No. 4 seed is evidence of her incredible career, given she was a qualifier at the last ASB Classic. Lulu is an extremely talented and exciting player. This is a wonderful opportunity for Kiwi fans to watch our own New Zealand star playing at home."

Eight Americans feature in the 22-player field including seventh seeded Naomi Osaka who is returning to Auckland for the first time since 2017.

All 22 players are inside the world top 100 rankings for the third year in a row at the ASB Classic.

The tournament kicks off with qualifying on December 28, before the main competition starts on December 30.
