New Zealand-raised British tennis ace Cam Norrie has been dumped out of the ASB Classic in the opening round, and was given a warning after his racquet hit a spectator near the end of the match.
The incident took place in the second set against Argentine Facundo Diaz Acosta, who had won a short rally to set up match point.
A clearly disappointed Norrie slung his racquet towards the baseline after hitting the ball into the net — only for his racquet to lob at a fan sitting in the front row.
The spectator indicated she was fine as the chair umpire went to check.
Norrie was given a warning and the match continued, with Acosta winning shortly afterwards 6-2 6-3.
