Flight turns back to Bali after passenger tries to open door in mid-air

JQ34 turned around an hour into its flight, according to FlightRadar24, returning to Denpasar Airport where the passenger was arrested.

A Jetstar flight from Bali to Melbourne was forced to turn around on Monday after a passenger attempted to open a plane door as the aircraft flew over the Indian Ocean.

Flight JQ34 left Denpasar Airport at around 8.40pm (local time) on Monday with more than 200 passengers on board.

The airline said in a statement to 9News that a "disruptive passenger" tried to force open one of the aircraft's doors and was "abusive to our crew".

JQ34 turned around an hour into its flight, according to FlightRadar24, returning to Denpasar Airport where the passenger was arrested.

"This sort of unacceptable behaviour will never be tolerated on our flights," an airline spokesperson added.

Australian radio host Jacqueline Felgate was on board the plane and posted a video to her Instagram account.

"Absolutely nightmare. Had to turn around and land back in Bali for her to get arrested. 260 angry and scared passengers. Police escorted her off plane," she wrote in the caption.

Another passenger, reality TV star Brooke Jowett, said the woman had been arguing with crew about her seat.
