Two spectators were ejected during last night's one-day international between the Black Caps and Pakistan after verbal abuse directed at the visiting team.
The incident took place following the third-one-day international in which Pakistan lost by 43 runs to New Zealand at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said foreign spectators hurled "inappropriate" and "anti-Pakistan" remarks at cricketers present on the field.
All-rounder Khushdil Shah stepped in when anti-Pakistan slogans emerged, the statement said.
"Afghan spectators escalated the situation by using further inappropriate language in Pashto."
Stadium officials intervened and ejected the pair, they added.
New Zealand Cricket confirmed that two spectators were ejected from the venue and that Shah had confronted the pair.
“Ground security prevented the incident escalating further and removed the offending spectators from the premises."
Last night's 43-run victory by the Black Caps meant a clean sweep of Pakistan in the ODI series.
Opening batter Imam-ul-Haq retired hurt after sustaining mild facial injury, caused by an accidental throw from a Black Caps fielder in the third over of Pakistan’s run-chase.
Imam underwent a CT scan at Tauranga Hospital and it "reported as normal".
He was diagnosed with a mild concussion and declared safe to fly home with the team, the PCB said.
A bizarre moment occurred in the 37th over with Jacob Duffy bowling to Tayyab Tahir.
When he released his delivery, the ground's floodlights went out.
Tajir was able to get out of harm's way before the light was restored.
