All Blacks wing announces Japan move

Blues wing Mark Tele'a.

All Black Mark Tele'a has announced he will play in Japan next year.

In a post to Instagram, the Blues winger revealed the move but did not say which club he would join.

"It‘s been an amazing ride so many fantastic memories and amazing people… But after much thought, I have decided that next year I will play my rugby in Japan," he said.

"Thanks to fellow players, coaches, administrators and fans! for making the past years so special for me. Always been grateful and blessed for the journey, but on to the next chapter for myself. Much love."

Last week, 1News reported several overseas clubs had been circling for Tele'a.

Sources suggested a deal has been done with Toyota, a club coached by former All Blacks bosses Steve Hansen and Ian Foster.

Tele'a has scored 13 tries in 19 Tests for the All Blacks and in 2023 was named World Rugby's breakthrough player of the year.

His departure was acknowledged by the Blues.

"A Massey local, Mark has overcome every obstacle to pursue his dream," the club wrote on social media.

"We will celebrate accordingly at the end of the season but until then we’ve got work to do."
