Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could be set to join Wrexham AFC on the club’s trip to New Zealand in July.

The newly-promoted Championship team yesterday announced a pre-season friendly against the Wellington Phoenix on July 19 as part of a wider tour down under.

And the club’s community director has hinted the co-owners would be very keen to come.

“This is the challenge, managing Rob and Ryan in any shape or form is like herding cats,” Humphrey Ker told Breakfast.

“I know they both want to come. Whether they can is usually a matter for the vagaries of diaries and work.

“They’re both very eager to come, I’m not sure if either of them have been before.”

Ker, one of the stars of docu-series Welcome to Wrexham, can’t quite believe how the club’s popularity has sky-rocketed over the past few years.

“I’ve been consistently astonished by how many folks I’ve met in the carpark at Wrexham that have come all the way from Wellington or Christchurch or wherever it may be.”

Three consecutive promotions mean the club will now face what has been described as one of the world’s most competitive football leagues, just a step away from the English Premier League.
