Kiwi Chris Wood nominated for Premier League player of the season

Kiwi footballer Chris Wood has been nominated for the Premier League player of the season award, capping off a season that has seen him rise to new heights.

The striker has netted 20 goals for Nottingham Forest this season, the first time he's reached the milestone while playing in England.

The 33-year-old has played a crucial role in the club's rise from relegation scrappers last season, to European contenders with two games remaining.

He was named player of the month in October.

Woods' teammate Morgan Gibbs-White was also nominated.

The Forest duo were joined by title-winning Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch.

Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, Arsenal's Declan Rice and Newcastle's Alexander Isak were also nominated.

Across his 261 Premier League appearances, Wood has scored 89 goals.

He ranks 44th on the list of all-time Premier League goal scorers.

The nomination also closes a season in which Wood helped lead the All Whites to qualification for next year's World Cup.
