Doctors in a coastal Russian city, near where yesterday's massive magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck, were filmed holding onto their patient and equipment as the operating theatre rocked.
Tsunami warnings and advisories were issued for countries across the Pacific yesterday, including New Zealand, after the quake struck off Russia's far east. The earthquake appeared to be the strongest anywhere in the world since the 2011 earthquake off northeast Japan that was 9.0 magnitude.

In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, near where the quake struck, a group of doctors at a cancer clinic were filmed as the shaking rocked the theatre, the region's Health Minister Oleg Melnikov said in a Telegram post, according to Reuters.
"Despite the danger, the doctors remained calm and stayed with the patient until the very end," he wrote, adding the patient was now safe.
Footage from the operation showed the doctors holding the patient and clutching on to medical equipment as the room was rocked. Once the shaking stopped, they continued the procedure.

One patient at a hospital was injured while jumping out of a building.
He said, however, that all those injured were in good condition.
A kindergarten in the city was damaged during the quake, but thankfully, it was not open due to ongoing repair work.
The town sits in Russia's far east, which is on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an active geological region prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
