Toilets reportedly became clogged and overflowed with human waste and urine on a flight between Bali and Brisbane last week.
The toilet at the rear of the Virgin Australia plane was already out of service when flight VA50 took off on Thursday, but the six-hour journey was not delayed or cancelled due to limited engineering support in Bali.
"One elderly woman was unable to hold on and suffered the humiliation of wetting herself in public," one passenger told The Australian.
"Midway through the flight, every toilet failed.
"For the remaining three hours, the cabin crew informed us we would need to relieve ourselves in bottles or ‘on top of whatever was already in the toilet’."
The passenger said the foul smell filled the air, and urine began seeping onto the floor.
In a statement to 7News, Virgin Australia confirmed the incident.
"A Virgin Australia flight from Denpasar to Brisbane on Thursday evening experienced an issue during the flight which affected the serviceability of the lavatories," the airline said.
"We sincerely apologise to our guests and thank our crew for managing a challenging situation on board."
