Dame Noeline Taurua stood down as Silver Ferns coach for upcoming series

Dame Noeline Taurua has been stood down as the coach of the Silver Ferns for the upcoming Taini Jamison Series against South Africa, Netball NZ has announced.

The decision followed ongoing discussions between Netball NZ, Dame Noeline and Silver Ferns' management concerning proposed changes to the national team's high performance sport programme and environment.

Netball NZ said it had been unable to resolve issues to everyone's satisfaction in the time prior to the series and had decided to stand Dame Noeline down as coach as a result.

Netball NZ board chairperson Matt Whineray said all parties remained hopeful of a resolution.

"We have a long relationship with Dame Noeline and her record with successive Silver Ferns teams speaks for itself. At this time, however, we need to focus on supporting players on the immediate challenge of playing South Africa."

Yvette McCausland-Durie will coach the Silver Ferns during the Taini Jamison Series, supported by Liana Leota as assistant coach.

Whineray acknowledged there would be questions but that no further comment could be made.

Taurua became Silver Ferns head coach in 2018 and led the side to a Netball World Cup victory in 2019.
