An electric scooter rider has been critically injured following a collision with a car in central Auckland this afternoon.
Police said they were called to the intersection of Mount St and Symonds St at 4.05pm today.
Officers could be seen inspecting the e-scooter, which was broken in half between the handlebars and riding deck, according to a 1News reporter at the scene.

"Motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow the directions of emergency services staff at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
The road is closed in both directions from Wellesley St to Mount St.

Detours are in place for bus routes 70, 22N, 22R, 24R, 25L, 27W, 75, 24B, 25B, 27H, and NX2.

The crash is the second involving an e-scooter rider in Auckland in recent days, 1News understands.
Around 1.42am on Friday, an e-scooter rider was critically injured after colliding with a car on Gillies Ave in Epsom.
The vehicle was left with a damaged windscreen in the crash.

Hato Hone St John said they were notified of the incident around 12.42am.
"One ambulance, one rapid response unit, and two operations managers attended," a spokesperson told 1News.
"One patient, in critical condition, was transported to Auckland City Hospital."
