School kapa haka group in bus crash that left one dead, 30 injured

One person has died in a crash between a car and a bus carrying a school group attending a kapa haka competition in Rotorua last night.

Kaiti School in Gisborne said its students were on the bus, and three were taken to hospital, but have been discharged.

They were staying in Rotorua while competing at Te Mana Kuratahi, a kapa haka competition in Tauranga.

US teacher shot by six-year-old wins $18m jury verdict

A jury in Virginia has awarded $18 million to a former teacher who was shot by a six-year-old boy.

Abby Zwerner was shot in the hand and the chest in January 2023 by the boy as she sat at a reading table in her first-grade classroom.

The seven-person jury sided with Zwerner and found a former primary school administrator liable for the incident.
