A person has been rescued after going overboard from a Cook Strait ferry this morning.
Strait NZ Bluebridge spokesperson Will Dady said the Livia's rapid emergency vessel was deployed after a person went overboard as the vessel left the Tory Channel en route to Wellington.
"The person was recovered quickly and safely from the water by crew," he said.
"We’d like to thank our crew for their quick actions. No further information is available at this time."
Police said it received a report of a person falling into the water around 9.50am on Monday.
"The person was safely retrieved and is being medically assessed," a police spokesperson said.
"Police are speaking to the person and are making enquiries into the incident."
The Livia, a 500-seat vessel, started Cook Strait service for Bluebridge last year.
