An issue causing One NZ and 2degrees customers to experience internet outages earlier today has been resolved.
The outage impacted internet and calls across parts of the South Island and lower North Island this morning.
This afternoon, the telecom company confirmed the issue had been caused by a bug in network software provided by a technology partner.
"We have opened a full investigation to ensure this doesn’t occur again," a spokesperson said.
In a post shared to LinkedIn, One NZ chief executive officer Jason Paris issued an apology to customers that were impacted, acknowledging the network outage was "just not good enough".
"We understand how important coverage and connectivity is to you, to run your life and run your businesses," Paris said.
"Our team has been working tirelessly since the early hours of the morning to get this sorted, and I'm delighted it has been fixed now."
Earlier today, the company said some customers' internet or calls were dropping out as a result of the network outage, and it had opened One NZ Satellite access to more customers in affected areas.
It said customers could still stay connected using WhatsApp calling, messaging, and data through its satellite service.
2degrees said on its website it also was aware of the outages.
Automobile Association (AA) centres across the lower North Island and the whole South Island were also closed as a result of the internet outages.
