A West Australian man allegedly touched other passengers, drank alcohol not provided by crew members, and ignored cabin crew instructions on a recent flight from Auckland to Perth.
The disruption took place on March 26, when the Australian Federal Police (AFP) received reports from an airline of a 58-year-old man disrupting a flight after being refused alcohol service.
"The AFP attended and cautioned the man upon his arrival in Perth, before he allegedly became verbally abusive," a release read.
AFP acting superintendent Peter Brindal condemned the behaviour.
“Disruptive, abusive or disorderly behaviour on aircraft will not be tolerated, and no passengers or cabin staff should be subjected to anti-social behaviour,” he said.
“The AFP works closely with airline partners and airport authorities to respond to incidents when they occur, and takes appropriate action where behaviour breaches the law.”
The man has had four charges levelled against him, relating to unauthorised alcohol consumption, disorderly behaviour, endangering the safety of those on the plane, and not complying with flight crew instructions.
The charges carried maximum penalties of fines ranging from AU$6000 to AU$15,650.
