Govt eyes long-range strike drones, seeks New Zealand-made solutions
Long-range, one-way strike drones worth up to $300 million are in the Government's sights for purchase under its Defence Capability Plan, with a particular focus on New Zealand-made solutions, Defence Minister Chris Penk says.
The drones being sought are human-operated, non-autonomous systems designed to deliver an explosive to a target without returning to their launch point — a lower-cost alternative to missiles.
Hawke's Bay growers abandon bid for McCain vegetable processing facility
Growers in Hawke's Bay have confirmed they will not continue exploring an option to purchase the McCain vegetable processing facility in Hastings.
McCain announced in March this year the factory would close by January 2027. It is one of two sites the company has in New Zealand, the other being located in Timaru.
'Awful': Two killed in North Shore home, man charged with murder
A 41-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder, and a homicide investigation launched, after two people were found dead in Auckland's Glenfield overnight.
Police were initially called to a residential address on Seon Place in Birkdale at around 8.21pm after reports a person had been stabbed.
