A Department of Internal Affairs investigation has found a man pocketed more than $100,000 in less than a year while working as a unlicensed security guard.
In the Auckland District Court today, the 42-year-old pleaded guilty to six breaches of The Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Act, resulting in a fine of $14,000.

A UK coroner has ruled a New Zealander previously convicted of fraud who was cleared of killing his wealthy wife had in fact murdered her to “financially benefit” from her death in 2017.
Donald McPherson, 53, was ordered to be found not guilty of murdering his wife Paula Leeson, 47, by a judge at Manchester Crown Court in 2021.
Political poll: Labour slides as coalition clings to power, Opportunity breaks 5%
Labour has tumbled to its lowest support since December 2024 and Opportunity has passed the 5% threshold for the first time in a mainstream poll, according to this month's Taxpayers' Union-Curia Poll.
Opportunity rose 2.8 points to 6.1%, enough to enter Parliament and reshape the numbers on both sides of the House.
