Welcome to 1News' live updates as Auckland's City Rail Link runs services for the first time.

What you need to know:

  • A special timetable is running for Auckland's rail network today, with extra trains on top of the normal Sunday service.
  • The first train to pull into one of the new stations was a South-City line service at Karanga-A-Hape station at 5.22am.
  • Events are being held across the city to mark the opening, 100 years in the making.
  • A small fire started by an electrical cable forced Waitematā Station to be evacuated this morning, causing some delays and cancellations on all train lines.

A Glenbrook Vintage Railway train reportedly "struck a person" at about 6.20pm last night, according to the Transport Accident Investigation Commission.
