ASB penalised $6.7m over 'inadequate' anti-money laundering systems
ASB has been ordered to pay $6.731 million over its "inadequate" anti-money laundering systems – the highest penalty of its kind ever imposed in New Zealand.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand launched proceedings against ASB in December 2025, following an investigation.
Labour pledges public transport fare cap if elected
Commuters in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch would pay no more than $20 a week for public transport under a $65 million-a-year Labour election promise.
In other regions, the cost-of-living weekly cap would be set at $10, according to Labour in a policy announced today.

A popular Masterton tourist attraction has been forced to close for the day after repeated incidents of people defecating in it.
Masterton District Council shut the fernery at Queen Elizabeth Park on Wednesday, saying staff had discovered several incidents of people using the historic building as a toilet.
