Dick Johnson Racing ace Brodie Kostecki has won the Bathurst 1000 after Anton De Pasquale ran out of fuel on the last lap.
Chaz Mostert set the stage for a tense finish in Sunday's great race after crashing into the wall at Forrest's Elbow with five laps to go.
It was a dogged Kostecki who made the most of the first safety car of the gruelling 161-lap marathon, overtaking Zach Bates en route to De Pasquale, before the latter's last lap calamity.
Triple Eight star Will Brown finished second, followed by Matt Stone Racing rookie Bates in third.
An emotional Kostecki shed tears as he spoke to co-driver Todd Hazelwood after crossing the finish line.
"I love you guys," a sobbing Kostecki said over the radio.
The duo end Dick Johnson Racing's seven-year drought at the Bathurst 1000.
